Ultra-marathoner Dean Schuster of Columbia, SC is using his passion for running as a platform to raise funds for penguin conservation and research. On March 9th, 2012, Schuster will lace up for one of the world’s most challenging and adventurous footraces: The Antarctica Marathon. Funds raised through Schuster’s initiatives will go to support Oceanities (Ocean-Eye-Tees)—a non-profit focused on conservation of penguins on the Antarctic Peninsula. A portion of the funds will go to the Riverbanks Conservations Support Fund.
To garner support for “Running with Penguins” Schuster will be running on a treadmill within the penguin exhibit at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia, SC on December 10th from 9 am to 5 pm. Schuster plans to log upwards of 50 miles throughout the day.
Marathon Tours—a Boston based company that offers travel opportunities to runners, chose Schuster to lead this initiative and according to the ultra-marathoner’s website he will “run to honor their trust and the trust of all who donate”.
