2012 Canadian Running Series’ Winners Revealed

Hamilton’s Reid Coolsaet along with Brantford’s Krista DuChene took home top honours – winning the 2012 edition of the Canadian Running Series. Coolsaet stood atop the podium three times, claiming victory at the Toronto Yonge Street 10k, the Scotiabank Vancouver half marathon and Toronto’s Oasis ZooRun 10K. Dylan Wykes Blogs About The Science (and art) Of Recovery

It was not long ago that I was explaining to someone that the ideal training day would be to run a Long Run in the morning, a tempo at lunch, and an interval session before dinner. Unfortunately, we cannot recover fast enough from a hard session to adhere to such a routine. Dylan Wykes has been in Flagstaff, Arizona training for his fast approaching stab at the Canadian Olympic Marathon standard of 2:11:29.

In Honour of National Running Day

In honour of National Running Day we would like to encourage all of you to text your friends and family and get them out the door. Today is not about how far you run or how fast, but rather, it’s about that first step out the door. To those who have, to those who do, and to those who will…RUNNERS FEED SALUTES YOU ON NATIONAL RUNNING DAY!

Because, after all, RUNNING IS THE NEW GOLF. And, if all else fails, just remember that “no matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch“.

Gillis is the First Canadian Finisher at Ottawa Race Weekend 10K

Gillis, 31, of the Speed River Track Club out of Guelph, Ontario, was the first Canadian to cross the finish line at the Ottawa Race Weekend 10K this evening.  His official time of 29:16 was 44 seconds shy of the overall win.  Gillis will take home $2000 for being the top Canadian and an additional $1200 for being the 4th place overall finisher.

Matt Loiselle, of Windsor, Ontario was the 2nd Canadian Finisher and 7th overall with a time of 29:03.

Dylan Wykes of Ontario, who resides in British Columbia, finished 9th, just over 1 minute behind Gillis in an unofficial time of 30:18. Wykes is fresh off a 13th place finish at the Bupa Great Manchester Run two weekends ago.

According to Canadian Running Magazine, Canadian 10k record holder Simon Bairu (27:23) felt flat from the start but indicated no injury.  Bairu expressed disappointment with his unofficial time of 31:11.

13 Year Drought Ends with Gillis’ Win at the Sun Run

On Sunday, 49,000 runners filled the streets of Vancouver to celebrate the 27th running of the Vancouver Sun Run.  This annual event welcomes runners of all abilities, while featuring some of Canada’s most elite distance runners. Dylan Wykes looking for The Sun Run Win

We caught up with 2010 California International Marathon Champion and the owner of a brand spanking new Half Marathon personal record of 1:02:14, Dylan Wykes. Dylan is an Ontario native currently residing in Vancouver, British Columbia. He talks about his current training environment, how he prepared for his last marathon, and what was going through his head when he realized he was having a great day in New York City.
