Runners FeedL: Describe your 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials experience

We arrived in Houston Wednesday night and it was so awesome to see the Olympic Trials signs everywhere! Thursday and Friday went by SO fast! Between meetings, water bottle decorating, eating, and meeting with family, the time flew by! Before I knew it, we were at the start line! My experience didn’t stop after the Olympic Trials Marathon. The following day at the Houston Marathon, my dad ran his first marathon, my sister ran her 3rd marathon finishing with a new PR, and my brother ran his first half marathon. It was so neat to be able to watch them complete their goals!

RF: Were you satisfied with your performance?

I am happy that I took a chance and went for that sub 2:33. I feel like I tried my best. Usually when I finish a marathon, I feel like I could have ran faster in the beginning. This time, I really feel like I left it all out there. The plan was to go out fast, and roll with it. I was fit and ready, it just wasn’t my day and I am ok with that. Some days you have it and some days you don’t.
What would you have done differently?

I need to figure out my nutrition. I am not sure I ate enough the night before the race, I fizzled out big time. My stomach gave me a lot of trouble those last 6 miles, so I think that I need to figure out a better nutrition plan for the marathon. Otherwise, I don’t think I would do anything differently. It was a hard race for me, but I had a big goal and went for it. Although I didn’t succeed, I know its in the cards for me in the future!

RF: What is on tap for the spring/summer?

Work on some short speed stuff, definitely my weakness. I will also run another marathon in May or June.

Rapid Fire

RF: In 1 word describe your approach to the race. Gutsy
RF: Rate the crowd support out of 10. 10, it was hard to stay focused at times because the crowd was so loud! It was great!
RF: What besides water fuelled you throughout the race? 3 Powerbar gels and Hammer Heed.
RF: Who proved to be your #1 fan today? My husband Matt. He worked so hard all weekend making sure my family/friends knew where to be and when, helping me with my water bottles, and just making sure everything was all set for me.
RF: Can we expect to see you gunning for the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials? Definitely!
RF: In 1 word describe your emotion when you crossed the finish line. Relieved! I was very happy that the race was over!

TRUE or FALSE

RF: I executed my race plan. True, although the last 6 miles were a death march!
RF: I hit the wall. Big time.
RF:I had fun! Yes! Besides the thoughts of “I am never doing this again”, the race was awesome.
RF: I will do my best to make it to the start line of another OT race. Of course!
RF: I will take a week or more off running. No

The men’s 1500m is arguably one of the toughest events to consistently medal and finish high. There are countless athletes across a plethora of countries competing at a high level in the 1500 meters. The margin for error is extremely narrow and one false move can sabotage a great effort. Canada’s Taylor Milne knows this

Pro distance runners know – racing is very unpredictable. Varying factors can put a damper on one’s original plans, especially over the marathon distance.  For Canada’s Simon Bairu, racing 10,000m at the Payton Jordan Invitational this weekend was not originally in the cards. Simon wanted to book his ticket to London via the marathon. However,

For me, running isn’t always about competing in races, running your hardest or even obtaining PBs.  It is certainly part of it, but I think what attracts me most to the sport is its accessibility.  Anyone with a pair of running shoes, a bit of energy, and a sense of adventure can get out the
