The field of elite runners set for Ottawa Race Weekend’s 10K just got a whole lot deeper. Tamarack Homes Ottawa Race Weekend organizers announced that Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai has been confirmed for the event. Mutai, who covered a marathon faster than anyone in history (2:03:02 – 2011 Boston Marathon) will toe the line in downtown Ottawa -Saturday, May 27th, 2012.
Ottawa boasts one of the fastest and most competitive 10 kilometer road races in the world. In 2009, Ethiopian Deriba Merga nearly broke the 10km road world record at Ottawa; running a blistering 27:24 – a record Geoffrey Mutai could potentially threaten.
Mutai, along with other elites, will have a chance to claim a pretty significant payday. The men’s and women’s champion will take home $6,000(USD) each. Other bonuses are available as well. Review Prize Breakdown
Canadian’s Reid Coolsaet and Eric Gillis and also been confirmed. They are using the race as a gear up for the London Olympic Marathon.
