During the months leading up to the birth of her first child, Colton Mirko Goucher (born September 25, 2010), Kara backed off on her mileage and occupied the extra hours she would normally be training with writing her first book. Kara’s most recent blog entry on March 31 announced that the book would be published this Tuesday, April 5, 2011 by Touchstone.

According to Kara’s blog, the book titled, “Kara Goucher’s Running for Women: From First Steps to Marathons” will include, a “comprehensive collection of tips and advice for women runners, especially beginners”.
Kara Goucher began running as a means to earning the ‘AAA’ award at her junior high, given to students who excelled academically, artistically and athletically. She jokes that after one day at volleyball try-outs, she decided cross-country would be where she would fulfill the athletic requirement. She not only excelled and got her award but this was the start of Kara’s successful career as one of American’s top female distance runners of all time.
As a dedicated reader of Kara’s blog, I am certain her book will provide any runner, regardless of their ability level, with valuable training tips and inspiring stories, all shared in a light and even humorous manner.
