When Hilary Stellingwerff of Sarnia, Ontario qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games, it was under less than ideal conditions. While most assume it takes the perfect day to finally snatch that golden standard, Stellingwerff ran 4:05.08 in Rome, while still battling food poisoning she believed she caught in Morocco.

Stellingwerff went on to compete at the games representing Canada and her Guelph, Ontario based club of Speed River Track Club. She qualified for the semi-finals and untimely positioning prevented her from making the final. The Olympian blogged about all the emotions she experienced at the games including, pride, frustration, jealously and gratitude. We highly recommend checking our Hilary’s blog called Run Hilary Run and following her over the next few weeks as she closes out her season with races across Europe.
